DMX Gets Hit With Additional Charges
DMX faces additional charges and a possible seven year bid as a result of his altercation with another driver at Kennedy Airport in Queens, New York.
Last Thursday, Earl “DMX” Simmons and associate Jack Hudgins were arrested by Port Authority Police when they reportedly attempted to steal a car.
Then late Friday, Simmons and Hudgins were handed additional charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Both were also charged with endangering the welfare of a child because DMX’s 13-year-old daughter was in the car at the time.
DMX told authorities he was rushing to catch a flight when another driver blocked him from parking. According to Port Authority Officials, DMX then identified himself as a federal agent and ordered the man out of the vehicle. When he refused, DMX flipped on illegal flashing lights and a siren and chased the man.
DMX then crashed his SUV through a parking lot gate at New York’s Kennedy Airport to avoid a $9 parking fine after identifying himself as a federal agent. Hudgins statement claimed that he gave DMX the $9 to pay the fee and tried to calm the rapper down but he refused.
When police arrived, they found DMX trying to pull the driver out of his car.
The two were arrested shortly afterward and police found a billy club, painkillers and rocks of crack cocaine in the vehicle. Simmons was taken into custody with hundreds of dollars in cash on him.
DMX explained the painkillers were from an injury he received while filming a movie.
“None of this would have happened if DMX had just paid the parking fee [and left]” Queens Assistant District Attorney Corrine Henderson told the New York Daily News.
She also said that DMX’s pants had fallen down to his ankles, but he was so high he didn’t notice. DMX wasn’t very cooperative with police while being arrested, according to Henderson.
“He told them, ‘I make moves. I make people disappear. Take these cuffs off me and we can go at it,’” she said.
He was later treated for breathing problems at Queens Hospital Center and was taken to detox, before being booked.
Simmons and Hudgins were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court late Friday and bail was set at $15,000. The two will return to court on July 23rd and face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
It is being reported that DMX caught a flight to Amsterdam this weekend, but that some of his tour dates have been postponed.
