Shyne Speaks to Hot 97 From Prison
Incarcerated former Bad Boy, Shyne called in to New York radio station Hot 97 on Friday (6/4) from the Clinton Correctional Facility granting his first interview since being sentenced to prison in 2001 for his involvement in a 1999 club shooting.
AllHipHop.com reports that the rapper told radio personality Angie Martinez he expects to be released from jail early next year pending appeal. He also maintained his innocence in the shooting, for which he was sentenced to 10 years for the charges.
“There’s no proof I shot anybody,” Shyne told Martinez. “As far as those charges, I’m innocent. You don’t get 10 years for gun possession. You get probation.”
He explained the prosecution admitted there was more than one person who shot a gun during the incident, but the rapper wasn’t willing to discuss the details.
The consensus among many of the Hot 97 callers was that Diddy turned his back on his protege during the trial, opting to defend himself.
Diddy has addressed these allegations in his interview in the July issue off XXL magazine. “There was a time, early in the trial, I had offered my defense team. Shyne decided to use his own. I felt Johnny Cochran could help,” Diddy said in his interview. “I had no decision in his style of defense.”
Shyne hasn’t let that bother him though, “I moved on,” he explained. “I’m so blessed, you dig? And so many things are happening for me.”
Although he has already done an interview for an upcoming issue of VIBE, the rapper said he would call back to Hot 97 on August 10 and speak on Diddy for the final time.
“This the last time I’ma talk about it,” he explained. “I’ll put my heart on my sleeve, which is something I normally don’t do.”
Shyne has parted ways with Bad Boy Entertainment since the incident and recently signed with Def Jam Records.
The new untitled album is set to be released on August 10 via Shyne’s Gangland Record Corp imprint.
